The University of the Fraser Valley Student Union Society (SUS) is a BC Not-For-Profit Society representing and serving UFV students. The Society manages the Student Union Building and facilitates services such as the UFV U-Pass, food services, and the student health and dental plan. SUS also provides support to an active community by organizing events and providing wellness and developmental programming. As the official representative body of UFV students, our mission is to be an inclusive community that provides high-quality, accessible programs and services. We are the unified voice advocating on behalf of student interests in the UFV community, ensuring each student has opportunities to thrive.



Title: Graphic Designer 
Work Schedule:
Full-time (30-37.5 hrs per week)

Location: UFV Abbotsford Campus (on-site)

Compensation: $23 per hour plus benefits 

Reporting to: Marketing and Communications Manager



POSITION DESCRIPTION


We're seeking a passionate and skilled graphic designer to join our team! In this role, you'll be the magic behind bringing ideas to life through stunning visuals. You'll collaborate closely with our Marketing and Communications team and external departments to translate concepts into eye-catching graphics that resonate with our student audience and surrounding community.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES


The Graphic Designer has specific responsibility for a variety of functions, including but not limited to the following:

  • Conceptualize and develop creative graphic solutions for various print and digital media.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to understand project goals and target audiences.
  • Assist with technical tasks, research, and material selection.
  • Translate brand guidelines and messaging into compelling visuals.
  • Execute high-quality designs using industry-standard graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Assist with event decoration and conceptualization.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of design trends and best practices.
  • Revise and iterate on designs based on feedback.
  • Prepare design presentations for internal and external stakeholders.


QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Graphic design experience: At least 12 months of experience in a design-related field; 
  • Visual ideation/creativity: Ability to consistently produce original, attractive, and practical design solutions.
  • Proficient knowledge of design software: Adobe Creative Suite. Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign are a must. Premiere Pro and After Effects are a plus.
  • Communication skills: Ability to explain your design decisions and rationale. You should be open to receiving and utilizing constructive feedback.
  • Time management skills: Capable of juggling multiple projects almost simultaneously, able to manage, prioritize, and work independently.
  • Teamwork skills: Must be able to collaborate and get along with others.
  • Strong attention to detail: Especially with typography, layouts, composition and colour theory.
  • Eagerness to learn: You must be motivated to keep up with current design trends. Seek and accept constructive feedback.
  • Work Ethic: Professional work ethic, exercising good judgment, initiative, confidentiality, and professionalism.
