2. Position Summary:

A classroom teacher must be 18 years of age be flexible, and able to effectively maintain and supervise a classroom. The person for this position shall have Child Development Associate (CDA), Child Care Professional (CCP), college credit hours in child development or closely related field or be willing to obtain the above. This person must have a workable knowledge of child development appropriate activities or be willing to attend seminars, conferences, or school to obtain the skills needed to perform this job. Major job functions also include communication with parents and collaborating with coworkers through staff meetings and other activities. The person responsible for this position shall adhere and support the mission of the O-Gah-Pah learning Center.

 

3. Essential Job Functions:

  • Maintains constant supervision of children in care. Supervises all activities to encourage participation and assure safety.
  • Constantly circulates to assist children during all activities.
  • Counsels or attends to children when social or academic adjustment is needed or out of control behaviors occur.
  • Uses appropriate positive interaction when discipline problems arise.
  • Interacts with all children in a nurturing and friendly manner.
  •  Treats each child and parent with respect.
  • Provides a well-balanced schedule, which includes active activities as well as quiet activities.
  • Writes and implements lesson plans.
  • Takes responsibility for setting up lesson material files and puts away teaching aids from previous lessons.
  • Maintains appropriate communications with all staff, parents, and children.
  • Maintains a classroom environment that is age appropriate and developmentally appropriate for each individual child taking into consideration the specific needs of the special need’s children.
  • Follows all Department of Human Services (DHS) regulations, OLC policies/procedures and the Quapaw Nation policies/procedures.
  • Administers medications with appropriate forms completed by parent/guardian.
  • Stays in close contact with the director regarding special needs children.
  • Sends home written communication, about each child’s day.
  • Always maintains professional outlook.
  • Attends staff meetings and recommended training workshops/conferences. 
  • Performs daily housekeeping responsibilities (sweeping, vacuuming, sanitizing toys, etc.)
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the director.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

To meet the educational requirements as stated, the employee agrees to begin obtaining CDA, CCP, Cert. of Mastery, college credit hours in child development after 90 days of hire date (may be delayed with director’s approval on a case-by-case basis).  The time frame does not include the 20 hours required by the Department of Human Services which is 20 hours training in the first 90 days.

Experience: Two-year childcare, preferably.

Education: Have a high school diploma or must have completed, at least, the tenth grade and hold a GED

Physical Abilities: Be physically able to sit on the floor and stand for long periods of time, and to move around quickly as needed. Be physically able to lifts and carry fifty (50) pounds to chest height. Be physically able to climb function within and around outdoor playground equipment.

Working Conditions: The work may be performed inside and/or outside of childcare center.
