DescriptionRoyal Ocean Marine is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Fleet Manager to oversee the operational efficiency and performance of our client shipping marine fleet. The Fleet Manager will play a critical role in ensuring that all vessels operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory standards.
Job Purpose:
The Fleet Manager is responsible for the overall technical and operational management of a group of vessels. The role ensures that all vessels are operated safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with relevant regulations and company policies. The Fleet Manager also oversees vessel budgets, maintenance planning, crew coordination support, and performance monitoring, working closely with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
Operations & Technical Oversight
- Manage the assigned vessels to ensure smooth, compliant, and efficient performance.
- Oversee maintenance, repairs, inspections, and docking activities.
- Ensure vessel readiness and compliance with statutory, flag, class, and safety requirements.
- Support and guide shipboard staff through shore-based technical teams.
Budget & Performance Management
- Prepare and manage operational and technical budgets for assigned vessels.
- Monitor vessel performance, fuel efficiency, and cost control.
- Review technical reports and provide recommendations for improvements.
Team & Crew Support
- Lead and support technical superintendents and operational staff.
- Collaborate with crewing and marine teams to ensure safe and effective manning.
- Participate in crew evaluations and provide feedback on performance.
Compliance & Audits
- Coordinate and ensure successful completion of audits, inspections, and vetting as required.
- Follow up on non-conformities and implement corrective actions.
- Promote a safety-first culture across all vessel operations.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as the main point of contact for technical issues with clients, charterers, service providers, and internal departments.
- Attend operational meetings and contribute to business development when needed.
Requirements - Technical qualification or marine engineering background (seagoing or shore-based)
- Proven experience in ship operations or fleet management in a shore-based role
- Familiarity with maritime regulations (ISM, SOLAS, MARPOL, Class, Flag)
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Good understanding of budget management and maintenance planning
- Proficient in shipmanagement software and reporting tools
- Willing to travel or attend vessels when required
